Key Campaigns: Local Health Services

Local MP, Nick Hurd is delivering on his campaign pledge to fight for local Health services in the face of threats to close local hospitals and cut highly valued services.

  • Nick played a key role in persuading the National Audit Office to perform a final investigation into the Paddington Health Campus shambles that would have closed Harefield Hospital.
  • Nick secured and led a debate in the House of Commons (8/2) that focused on Hillingdon Health problems.
  • Nick has represented local views in regular meetings with the senior management of the North West London Strategic Authority, Brompton and Harefield Trust, and Hillingdon PCT.
  • Nick has convened a meeting of all Hillingdon stakeholders to respond to the potential loss of local cancer services.

On the 8th February, he secured a debate in the House of Commons on Health Services in West London. Nick took the opportunity to inform the Minister about the very real problems that we have in Hillingdon.

The long term uncertainty about the future of Harefield Hospital. The fact that one million people will lose their local cancer centre as and when the Mt Vernon cancer centre is moved to Hatfield. The collapse of the Plastic and Burns Centre at Mt Vernon being yet another example of how that site is neglected by the NHS. The cuts to services that are the painful consequence of financial shambles at Hillingdon PCT. The concerns about getting access to NHS dentistry from April.

The debate secured a promise from the Minister to receive representations from the local community ,which is our chance to start a sensible discussion about a fair deal for Hillingdon.
