Community Giving Hub
How to donate your time and expertise to help our local community thrive

I am strong believer in voluntary action. It helps create a strong sense of community and provides a real sense of fulfilment for many people. So I wanted to create an online space that achieved two simple but important things:
  1. Make it easier for people to find information on what our local voluntary groups actually need - particularly in terms of opportunities to make a big difference through volunteering or in kind donations.
  2. Showcase some of the extraordinary contributions that residents and businesses are making to support local groups.
As you can see, we have made a start and it will grow from here. There is a national website which I highly recommend, where you can put your postcode in to find volunteering opportunities close to you called Do-It.

Harrow Community Action (HCA)

Harrow Community Action (HCA) is a great consortium working to strengthen the voluntary & community sector in the area. They provide volunteering opportunities and aim to create a stronger sense of local identity, engagement and collaboration.

Hillingdon Association of Voluntary Services (HAVS)

Hillingdon Association of Voluntary Services (HAVS) is a Council for Voluntary Services (CVS). We support and develop the voluntary sector in the London Borough of Hillingdon. They have over 420 Members, which is free and open to all charities, voluntary and community organisations working in Hillingdon.

volunteers week

Volunteers’ Week is in it’s 31st year of celebrating the outstanding contributions of volunteers spare time to charities. Volunteers’ Week showcases the different volunteering roles on offer, taster sessions and team challenges with new partners, to volunteer recruitment events, awards ceremonies and launching new volunteering campaigns. These events takes place throughout the UK. I’d be delighted to get as many charities involved from Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner and the surrounding areas involved. For more information about Volunteer’s week I recommend visiting this site: http://volunteersweek.org/

Please do let me know if you are taking part!

Giving tuesday

This initiative was inspired by Giving Tuesday, a new campaign which I am supporting. It is a global day to celebrate and encourage generosity, and you can find more information on the websitehttp://www.givingtuesday.org.uk/. This year it is on December 2nd, and if you decide to take part, please share your story with us.

On Giving Tuesday, Local Giving has something very special happening; anyone who donates any charity gets put into a random draw. At the end of the day 1000 people are randomly chosen and their donation to whichever charity is TREBLED!

Unsung hero

Click here to read more about Patricia BreibartHazel Pike, Terry Harding, Peter Tinson and all they do for the incredible Michael Sobell Hospice at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood. Urszula Gudiens' daughter Hania also emailed in with reasons why she thinks her Mum is an unsung hero in the community, and so did Cllr John Nickolay regarding his friend Brian Whitehead. If you would like to nominate someone for the Unsung Hero page, like Uszula’s daughter, please email me.
