We are a mainly voluntary organisation and our aim is to help make staff, patients and visitors more comfortable by personal service and the provision of facilities not available under the NHS.
The most obvious sign of our existence is the Refreshment Pavilion and shop immediately opposite the main hospital block. This is not just a place where food and drink can be purchased, at competitive prices, but a quiet friendly area where staff, visitors, and patients alike can relax in a pleasant non-institutional atmosphere.
Our opening hours are from 10 a.m. to 5-30 p.m. Monday to Friday but this is not always possible if we do not have enough volunteers available. Although there are generally three shifts available for volunteers (10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 1:00p.m. to 3:30p.m., and 3:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.) the manager will be happy to discuss other options with you.
The charity is run by a small committee that urgently needs to recruit new members if it is to continue to operate effectively.
Our income comes from the profits of our trading in the pavilion and shop and donations from ex-patients and friends throughout the country and is used to make grants to the hospital to finance special projects.
