Save the Children UK – Pinner

Do you enjoy being with people?  Then you will love volunteering in one of our Community Retail shops. We have over 130 Community Shops across the UK which are run entirely by volunteers.  Our Community Shops raise over £8 million each year for Save the Children and also raise vital awareness of our work.

What you’ll be doing

Volunteering in one of our shops could involve anything from sorting, sizing, pricing and displaying donations for sale on the shop floor, to helping to create eye-catching window displays, to serving customers on the till.  Many of our shop specialise in topics such as books, collectibles or selling electricals – which means there is usually a role to suit everyone’s interests!

A passion for crafting?

Many of our shops create beautiful craft times by ‘Up cycling’ which is the process of converting unusable products into new items or products of better quality – this is a great way to make the most of unsold items or materials donated to our shops to create attractive hand-crafted goods.

All of these roles are varied and interesting and you’ll be part of a team of fun and professional volunteers who raise money to change the lives of children worldwide.

Join us

If you want to find out about volunteer opportunities in your local shop, you can contact the shop directly by giving them a call or popping in and hearing first hand from our current volunteers.

Alternatively, please contact the Volunteer Support Team using the details above and we can contact the shop on your behalf.

Can’t volunteer? Donate to your local shop

Income is raised via our shops in various ways including events and handmade crafts but predominantly through the generous donation of high quality items from members of the public and local supporters.

The Pinner shop is special…

Packed with exciting donations from luxury brands and retailers, this shop sells menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, homeware, footwear and accessories. For a unique fairground-inspired shopping experience, with incredible bargains to be had, this is the place to be!

On 1 November 2014 a bustling crowd gather outside the Mary’s Living & Giving Shop in Pinner to watch Mary Portas, together with three-year-old Jeanie Leyland and 12-year-old Yazzzi Gokcemen, officially open the newest Living & Giving Shop.

The shop design, by Anthony Leyland, a local architect and stay-at-home dad, is inspired by Pinner’s historic annual street fair: trapeze-like shelving hangs from the ceiling, house of horror mirrors and wonky cupboards adorn the walls, and colourful flooring gives a nod to the Big Top circus. Images of Pinner Fair circa 1930s add an air of authenticity.

Mary Portas said, “I am thrilled to announce the opening of the newest edition of our Living & Giving shops. Pinner is a fabulous location with a thriving community that really takes pride in their local establishments. We are looking forward to getting to know our neighbours and creating a unique space where locals can get together and shop in an exciting new environment.

Mary’s Living & Giving Shop for Save the Children is appealing for donations from residents, fashion houses and local artisans, and for volunteers to work in the shop.
